Meringue Cookie

🌎 N/A: Dessert

🥗 Ingredients:

  • egg whites (30g)
  • granulated sugar (50g)
  • cream of tartar or vinegar (1g)
  • vanilla extract (1g)
  • salt (1g)

🍳 How to cook (10 servings):

Cooking Time: 1 to 1.5 hoursPreperation Time: 15 minutes

Preparation

Begin by preheating your oven to 200°F (93°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Ensure that your mixing bowl and whisk are completely grease-free to achieve the best volume for your egg whites.

Making the Meringue

In a clean mixing bowl, beat the egg whites using an electric mixer on medium speed until foamy. Add the cream of tartar or a few drops of vinegar to stabilize, and continue beating. Gradually add sugar, about a tablespoon at a time, while continuing to beat the egg whites. Increase the speed to high and beat until stiff peaks form and the mixture is glossy. Gently fold in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt for flavor.

Baking

Spoon or pipe the meringue mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, forming small cookies. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the meringues are crisp and dry. Turn off the oven and let the meringues cool inside with the door slightly open, to prevent cracking.

Serving

Serve the meringues once they are completely cooled. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.
