Ingredients
- 400g ground beef or pork - 2 tablespoons olive oil - 1 onion, finely chopped - 2 garlic cloves, crushed - 1 carrot, finely chopped - 2 celery sticks, finely chopped - 800g canned tomatoes - 2 tablespoons tomato paste - 125ml red wine (optional) - 125ml beef or vegetable stock - 1 teaspoon dried oregano - 1 teaspoon dried basil - Salt and pepper to taste - 400g pasta (spaghetti, fettuccine, or your choice) - Grated Parmesan cheese to serve
Instructions
1. Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Cook until the vegetables are softened. 2. Add the ground beef or pork to the pan, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Cook until browned. 3. Stir in the canned tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine (if using), and beef or vegetable stock. Add the dried oregano and basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste. 4. Bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. The longer it simmers, the more flavorful it will be. 5. Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside. 6. Serve the Bolognese sauce over the cooked pasta and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
