Step 1: Prepare the Eggs
Place the desired number of eggs in a saucepan.
Step 2: Add Water
Fill the saucepan with cold water until the eggs are covered by about an inch.
Step 3: Bring to a Boil
Place the saucepan on the stove over medium-high heat and bring the water to a rolling boil.
Step 4: Turn Off the Heat
Once boiling, turn off the heat but leave the saucepan on the hot burner.
Step 5: Cover and Let Sit
Cover the saucepan with a lid and let the eggs sit in the hot water. For soft-boiled eggs, let them sit for 4-6 minutes. For hard-boiled eggs, let them sit for 9-12 minutes, depending on your preference.
Step 6: Prepare an Ice Bath
While the eggs are sitting, prepare an ice bath by filling a large bowl with ice and water.
Step 7: Transfer Eggs to Ice Bath
Using a slotted spoon, transfer the eggs to the ice bath once they've finished cooking. Let them cool for at least 5 minutes to stop the cooking process.
Step 8: Peel and Serve
