🥗 Ingredients:

  • wheat flour (75g)
  • cheddar cheese, grated (30g)
  • unsalted butter (15g)
  • whole milk (50g)
  • baking powder (3g)
  • salt (1g)
  • sugar (2g)
  • egg (10g)

🍳 How to cook (4 servings):

Cooking Time: 15 minutesPreperation Time: 15 minutes

Preparation

Begin by preheating your oven to 220°C (430°F). In a large bowl, sift together the wheat flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut the cold unsalted butter into small cubes and add them to the flour mixture. Using your fingertips, rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

Adding Cheese

Stir in the grated cheddar cheese to the flour-butter mixture, making sure it's evenly distributed throughout.

Forming Dough

Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the whole milk. Using a flat-bladed knife, mix everything together to form a soft dough. Be careful not to overmix, as this will toughen the scones.

Shaping and Baking

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it just until smooth. Roll or pat the dough out to a thickness of about 2cm. Using a cutter, cut out scones and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Beat the egg lightly and brush the tops of the scones with the egg wash for a glossy finish. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown and well-risen.
