Preparing the Sushi Rice

Begin by cooking the sushi rice according to package instructions. Once cooked, season it with rice vinegar, stirring gently to combine. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature before proceeding.

Assembling the Philadelphia Roll

Lay out a sheet of nori on a bamboo sushi mat. Spread an even layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving a small margin at the far end. Layer slices of smoked salmon, thin strips of cucumber, and chunks of cream cheese along the closer end. Carefully roll the sushi using the bamboo mat, applying gentle pressure to ensure the roll is tight but not crushed. Wet the far end of the nori to seal the roll.

Slicing and Serving

With a sharp, wet knife, slice the roll into six even pieces. Serve immediately, garnished with optional pickled ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce on the side for dipping.
