Prepare the ingredients
Gather all your ingredients: 2 pounds of beef brisket or chuck, 1 head of cabbage, 3 large carrots, 2 large potatoes, 1 large onion, salt, pepper, and bay leaf.
Boil the beef
Place the beef in a large pot and cover with water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil. Skim off any foam that rises to the top.
