Sushi Roll Recipe

Sushi is a traditional Japanese dish featuring rice seasoned with rice vinegar and combined with various ingredients such as seafood, vegetables, and occasionally tropical fruits. Sushi rolls (or makizushi) are a popular variant where these ingredients are wrapped in seaweed (nori) and sliced into bite-sized pieces.

  • sushi rice (150g)
  • raw fish (tuna or salmon) (50g)
  • avocado (30g)
  • sesame seeds (5g)
  • seaweed (nori) (5g)

Prepare Sushi Rice

1. Rinse 2 cups of sushi rice in cold water until the water runs clear. 2. Cook the rice in 2 1/2 cups of water until fully absorbed. 3. Transfer the cooked rice to a large bowl and mix with 1/4 cup rice vinegar, 2 tablespoons sugar, and 1 tablespoon salt.

Prepare Ingredients

1. Thinly slice fish (e.g., salmon or tuna) if using raw fish. 2. Julienne vegetables such as cucumber and avocado. 3. Set aside a sheet of nori seaweed.

Roll the Sushi

1. Place the nori sheet shiny side down on a bamboo rolling mat. 2. Spread a thin layer of sushi rice evenly over the nori, leaving a border at the top edge. 3. Arrange slices of fish and vegetables across the center of the rice. 4. Carefully lift the mat and roll it over the ingredients, pressing gently to shape the roll. 5. Moisten the border of nori to seal the roll.

Slice and Serve

1. Use a sharp knife to slice the roll into 6-8 pieces. 2. Serve immediately with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi on the side.
