Making the Arepas Dough

1. In a mixing bowl, combine 50 grams of pre-cooked cornmeal with approximately half a teaspoon of salt. Gradually add water while stirring until a smooth, pliable dough is formed. 2. Let the dough rest for a few minutes to hydrate the cornmeal fully.

Forming the Arepas

1. Divide the dough into small portions, about 80 grams each. 2. Shape each portion into a small, circular patty. If desired, stuff with cheese before fully closing the dough.

Cooking the Arepas

1. Heat a little oil or butter in a pan over medium heat. 2. Place the arepas in the pan, cooking for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
