  • wheat flour (100g)
  • water (50g)
  • potatoes (150g)
  • minced meat (50g)
  • onions (30g)
  • salt (5g)
  • pepper (2g)

Dough

Combine about 2 cups of all-purpose flour, a pinch of salt, and water (about 3/4 to 1 cup) in a large mixing bowl. Knead the mixture until a smooth, elastic dough forms. Cover and let it rest for about 30 minutes.

Potato Filling

Boil 3-4 medium potatoes until tender. Mash the potatoes and mix with sautéed onions (1 large onion), salt, and pepper to taste. You can also add garlic or herbs according to your preferences.

Form and Cook

Roll the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness. Cut out circles using a glass or cookie cutter. Place a spoonful of the potato filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape, and seal the edges firmly. Boil the varenyky in salted water until they rise to the surface, then cook for an additional 3-5 minutes.
